Because it was too expensive. HBO cancelled Carnivale because it cost them 2 million dollars each episode. They suggested to cut down the budget to 1 million, but HBO and Carnivale couldn't reach an accord. They also cancelled it because with each contract signed, HBO would buy 2 seasons instead of just one, as Daniel Knauf intended on creating three 'books' in which every book would consist out of two seasons, ending up with six seasons. Therefore you could only sign a contract for the duration of two season instead of just one. 4 out of 4 found this valuable. Do you? |

OMFG that just makes me mad! Holy crap! I read this already somewhere else but it just makes me so very angry every time I hear it again. Seriously..? Because they couldn't reach an accord..? Why? I feel like crying. They killed a part of me when they cancelled the show and NO I'm not being dramatic I said I would never watch it again back when it got cancelled but I did and now it died again knowing it hasn't come back. 8 out of 9 found this valuable. As far as I know, there had also been plans for Carnivale having a follow-up miniseries or a 3 hour movie, but Knauf turned that offer down. I agree with him: if I were him, I'd never accept a follow-up mini-series and/or a 3 hour movie, only to fill in the gaps that were left behind. Too many (different and other) people would get involved and his own creativity and freedom in doing what he wants would be affected. Plus, he wouldn't have the time to wrap EVERYTHING up anyway. The purpose of this mini-series or movie was to wrap up the story (lines) of what we've seen so far. If he had agreed to making either the mini-series or movie, then he wouldn't have the time and freedom to work out his whole original and intended story anyway. I'd never ever do that either. He wouldn't do his series, his creativity, his originality, his crew and his cast any right if he would ever turn this into something else than it really is: an amazing and brilliant series. If Carnivale is ever to come back then it should be as it left us: as a series, with the exact same cast and crew. Any other way would never ever be the same. 5 out of 7 found this valuable. Same with me. I checked showcase this morning only to find like you it doesn't exist. Still, shoudn't be surprised HBO did the same with Deadwood and I loved that series.

A friend of mine just told me that it was meant to be 6 seasons... but got cancelled at the end of the 2nd.... And they had to try to tie up all the loose ends in that final two part episode... Personally... i think it created more questions rather than some kind of final understanding...... Such an anti climax for a show I had become totally obsessed by....!

ive just finished watching last episode of season 2, and yes am disappointed at no season 3, but read that only reason it isnt released is because they wouldnt pay the author the $2 million dollars he wanted. does anyone know if this is true.

"Because it was too expensive. HBO cancelled Carnivale because it cost them 2 million dollars each episode. They suggested to cut down the budget to 1 million, but HBO and Carnivale couldn't reach an accord.I don't buy the whole it was to expensive crap, because Rome cost something like 9 million per episode, which is a lot more then 2 million per episode. Sure HBO was splitting the biggest with BBC, but HBO was paying the largest portion of the budget. 4 out of 6 found this valuable. Do you? |

you know i am sick and tired of them cancleing showes all because the dont have the money its bs and it leaves all of us wondering and never knowing....heros did the same damn thing ...hbo has the money i mean look at how much they spend on some of their other shows they should just cut some of those and finish Carnivale.

I was hooked right from Series One Episode One...Carnivale is just so DIFFERENT, so atmospheric and gorgeous to watch - the set design & the ambience...OMG. It annoys me so that we get series after series of mainstream rubbish yet something like this ends prematurely. I'm left feeling a bit empty to be honest...I felt this way after seeing The Return Of The King because the journey was over, but at least I had a sense of closure then. None of us have this now....

the problem is that hbo doesn't consider the fact that everyone in the u.s. is go,go,go and cancel because of their stinking ratings. clearly they aren't in touch with the mainstream public and the fact that these hbo chislers don't realize something good when they have it-same asa deadwood. i wonder if they check other ratings like today show, good morning america, crap tv that just keeps getting shoveled and shoveled. as we all know-what a load of crap to cancel.HELLOSHOWTIME? ANYONE ELSE AGREE!!!!!!!!!!!!Do you find this valuable? |

just bought the two seasons on DVD can't wait to watch it all again but it's gonna hurt when i get to the end and know there is so much still to resolve, i just wish there was some chance of it being brought back but i guess not, unless it gets lots of international support, who knows, we can hope
